False Prophets Are Liars, Deceitful

False Prophets Are Liars, Deceitful

Satan is the father of lies and deceit. As servants of Satan, the false prophet will as readily use lies as breath. As a fish takes in and exhales water, the false prophet is filled with deceptions and lies. He uses speech as a way to get what he wants from others. His words never ring true, because he uses words as an instrument to gain his own will.

Act 20:30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.

Deu 18:20-22 20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. 21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? 22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

False prophets use deceit to trick believers into coming under their influence and control. While we may be deceived by them, this self same deception reveals their evil character.

Truth is rooted in reality, and while people dream and live in their minds in a world different from reality, this plagued with impossibility of their lies to produce good. Nobody that lives in the excesses of alcohol, drugs, sex, stealing, etc. every saw God’s blessing on that kind of life, and eternity is worse for them.

They hide their true intentions

Mat 24:23-24 KJV 23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. 24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

They tend to use tricks, bait and switch, and other deception oriented methods.

2Co 11:13-15 KJV 13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Jer 14:14 KJV Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.

It must be remembered that BOTH the false prophet and the true minister of God claim to be from God. It is up to the individual to discern and distance or draw near one or the other. When you begin to catch half-truths, exaggerations, and other types of deceptions, you can begin to see a profile that should make you discern. But it is the moral strength of the individual to “do the easy thing” and stay under the false prophet, or “do the hard thing” and find another church.

Jeremiah 14:14 Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.

Jeremiah 23:26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart;

Every preacher, or religious speaker speaks from what he thinks God is directing him. But only the true man of God will accurately, quickly, and openly explain Scripture as to why he believes what he is presenting is right. This boils down to just good old exposition. Reading actual verses of the Bible and explaining them, logically, in harmony with all Scripture, and clearly. Some of our brethren preachers get so tangled up in explaining that it is hard to follow them, but at least that is the right direction that Christians should be leaning.

When a preacher takes a lot of liberties with the Word of God in his preaching, be very careful about that preacher.

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Revelation 13:13 And he (the False Prophet) doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

The False Prophet has a vocation that counterfeits the ministry of the Holy Spirit. He uplifts the Antichrist just as the Holy Spirit uplifts Christ.

They Use Shields to Project Piety, and Hide their Impiety

Mark 12:40 Which devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation. Matthew 23:14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. Luke 20:47

Our Lord condemned the Scribes and Pharisees, because they made a great show of “spirituality” in praying before the world, yet in the practical aspect of religion, they devoured or took advantage of poor widows. In other words, they presented one kind of person in public but were another kind of moral character in the actual practice of their lives.

Isaiah 29:13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:

This is a good way of discovering the truth about these false prophets. But the main point is to not trust what they are pretending to be, but examine what they really are.

Jude 1:4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

False Prophets and the Truth

We need to understand that there is a tight relationship between truth and reality. Also morality enters into this relationship. God’s words are truth. But we need to understand the opposite of truth is a lie, a deception. Satan’s temptation of Eve in Genesis 3 is a good example. What Satan declared and offered Eve was not truth, but a lie. She was deceived because she acted on Satan’s words as if they were truth.

So reality is what God says it is. We must accept it as truth, as reality, but also we have a moral relationship to that principle. Either by making it a part of our lives, living life, regarding that declaration as reality or not, choosing something else, is a highly moral decision.

They use subtle Tricks to Draw People Away

Psalms 28:3 *Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts.

Acts 20:29 *For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

The false prophet uses force, persuasion, and convincing lies to trap people into their webs of deceit. In the end, they do not do spiritual good to these people but harm them. Not only do they harm them with hurtful things, they also block the real blessings of God from them. Part of their switch and bait tactics is that they offer the blessings of God, and give them the curses of the Devil.
