Marks – Cause and Promotion Divisions
God wants unity and peace among his creatures. A Christian is marked by his love of God and his neighbor. Mark 12:29-31 states that God’s greatest commandment is to first love God, and then to love our neighbors. We “get along” with others. This is a foundational concept within salvation. We have peace with God through the blood of Christ shed for us. That makes peace overwhelm our souls, and this has to overflow into our relationships with others. Satan uses sinful man to ruin this peace and tranquility. The false prophet works through competition and the division of God’s people. Heresy means a division. Some non-essential aspect is elevated in order to create divisions.
Marks – Cause Confusion
The domination of man’s soul by God, the Savior, the Holy Spirit, and salvation puts order into that person’s life. The false prophet wants to be the one who orders things in his followers’ lives, but in the end analysis, what he creates in his followers is confusion and chaos. They hear his words, but they don’t see a living example of what he says, except when what he says isn’t biblical. This confuses people.
Marks – Fluff instead of Meat
The false prophet is in the business of distracting and getting God’s people “off course”. In other words, what they should be doing and believing, they don’t. But Satan knows that he cannot convince as many of just stopping everything God says to do, so he substitutes fluff instead of spiritual meat. He focuses on things that are not essentials.
Marks – Focus on Outward Things
The false prophet has a mindset that needs to be understood. He looks upon all that God says about eternity with disbelief in his own heart. He just does not believe and embrace God’s declarations about eternity and judgment. Because he is always trying to dissuade himself about eternal things, he focuses on the here and now, and his attitude is that what is important is only what makes me comfortable here and now. To work, suffer, do without here and now in order to treasure up spiritual riches in eternity is not something he admits or accepts.
Marks – Greedy, Covetousness
Because of his understanding or mindset towards the physical “now” world and the future eternal world, he only focuses on temporal benefits. This means that he has earthly riches as his god.
Marks – Hide their True Nature
Again, the false prophet follows his lord, Satan, so since Satan is a liar from the beginning, Satan’s prophets follow this element of not actually being what pretend and present to others that they are. They try to hide their motives and nature, because the more open and honest about themselves, the more people will reject them, especially truly saved people.
Marks – Hypocrites
A hypocrite is somebody like an actor, in that, they present themselves as one thing, but in the essence of their soul, they are not that thing. God hates hypocrites and sends them to hell, to their father the Devil.
