False Prophets have Another Gospel Part #1 they have a different gospel. What is “a gospel’? What is your gospel? Preaching and the false prophet. Moral change. Pretending to be God’s ministers, they are deceitful. Hope or reality? Reality causes change.
2 Peter 2:1-3 KJV 1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
It is very important to realize that the false prophet uses the same vocabulary as Christians but assign different meanings to the words. He is deceptive in the way he does things. His speech has different goals or objectives than a true messenger of God. God’s messengers seek moral change in those that hear them. That is God’s desire, and the true prophet of God just does what is God’s will. The false prophet has the objective of anything other than that true and good moral change.

What does “preach” mean?
Matthew 3:1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, Matthew 3:2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Matthew 10:7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
“Preaching” is simply being God’s spokesman. The preacher speaks for God to the people. This is a serious command and responsibility. We are not at liberty to say whatever pops into our heads. The “herald” or preacher of the Bible was at the hand of God, hearing what the king says, and repeating the very words of the king. To alter slightly those words was wrong. To change the message, add to the message, or omit part of the message was something that would cause the king to get angry at his herald, and the herald would be rebuked, disciplined, or even removed from his position.
Exodus 4:12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.
A prophet speaks in the name of God, representing God, but also equally important, the prophet of God faithfully speaks the message of God. What he says is very important to God. To speak in the name of God and representing God gives authority and priority to the minister. The false prophet wants this authority, power, and control over the resources of a person’s life, but without his preaching the very message of God, so he is a hypocrite, and a minister of Satan not God.
The Heart of the Issue: Moral Change
Jeremiah 23:21 I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied. Jeremiah 23:22 But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.
There is an inseparable link between the true prophet of God and moral change. God rebuked the prophets of Israel because they were supposedly representing God and speaking for God, yet they preaching did not turn people from sin. That is the very heart of the issue here.
A false prophet can know much about the Bible, and he can speak very intelligently about all kinds of things in the Bible, but he is a total failure at changing people’s hearts. The true prophets of the Old Testament fought a great spiritual battle with the people of Israel who were religious yet did not please God with their religion. The false prophet is the top of that heap of hypocrites.
But the point is that the entire ministry of the true prophets of God was directed towards moral change. They fought that battle intensively. The false prophet has nothing to do with moral change in the will of God. He only wants meticulous control over the people’s lives. Morality is just the vehicle he uses to achieve that goal of control.
Matthew 13:15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. (Acts 28:27; Isaiah 6:10; Jeremiah 5:21; Romans 11:8)
So even Jesus fought the same battle of repentance in the people’s lives. But while God’s servants are not very successful in this battle, they do have some wins, some people truly change, and that makes it worth it all.
Satan’s Messengers Pretend to be God’s Ministers
False Prophets are deceitful
2 Corinthians 11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 2 Corinthians 11:15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
The entire difference between Satan’s disguised messengers and God’s ministers is the message that they bring. They bring an altered message. This brings the condemnation of God on them and their ministries. They do nothing for God by changing the message. In large part, the message is the moral character of God, and they horribly fail in their own personal moral character and what they preach fails to morally change those that sit under their ministries.
Deuteronomy 18:21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken? Deuteronomy 18:22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
Discerning between a false prophet and a true man of God which speaks for God is difficult at best. But there is a rule to observe here. The false prophets has a basic essential characteristic of deception. He deals in deceit. The true minister of God deals in reality. What the true prophet of God says is based in God’s Word, so it can be checked for inspiration from God, but with time, what he says comes true.
False Prophets give Comfort and Hope for those Living in Sin
Zechariah 10:2 For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd.
This element is very important. In God’s view, His prophets are supposed to condemn sin, pronouncing God’s words of condemnation on unrepentant sin. The equation is simple here. You continue in sin, bad things will happen to you. But the false prophet gives comfort and words of encouragement to people who are unrepentant of their sins. God condemns the false prophets for this conduct.
This character trait of the false prophet is characteristic of all false prophets, that is, they flatter the people of God.
Romans 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. Romans 16:18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
Notice that those preachers we are to avoid are ones who flattery the congregation with “good words and fair speeches.” Hearing them is a great encouragement. But there is no moral change at the heart of these speeches. This is because their own popularity and financial income depend on being popular and well liked by the people of God. That is their main concern. The people who follow them are called “simple,” that is, they are naive, easily deceived.
1 Timothy 6:3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; 1 Timothy 6:4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, 1 Timothy 6:5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
In the mind of the false prophet, gain is godliness. If some line of teaching makes him popular, famous, rich, then he is spiritual in some sense. Others should worship him, follow him, be his disciple.
2 Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 Peter 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 2 Peter 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
The false prophet is marked by this greed, a high desire for financial gain. Peter states that they “make merchandise of you,” or use people to get what they want. Their primary interest is not in the eternal good of those under their ministry, but in the material benefits those people can provide to the false prophet.
Mark 13:21 And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. Mark 13:23 *But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.
The question with this verse is why would somebody identify a contemporary person as being “Christ”? The answer lies in what does the word “christ” mean? Christ is the anointed one who bring salvation from sin and blessings. What Jesus warns about is when people seek for “a savior” but outside of Jesus Christ the Savior. Notice that I have used lower case in referring to christ and savior. These are not referring to that biblical person, Jesus, born of Mary and Joseph, but rather a modern day leader that does away with the consequences of sin (yet the person is perfectly free to continue unrepentant in their sins), and brings them material blessings (without addressing the spiritual problems of materialism, i.e. riches, as Jesus Christ also warned against).
We see these modern day christs in various different contexts. Firstly, in government leaders. The people of all nations “hang their hopes” on a modern day leader that will take away the bad and bring the good, and preferably with it costing them anything. Speaking monetarily, that they can live in luxury without paying, without themselves working. The people of our world look to political leaders as their savior. That is always 100% wrong. Secondly, they look to others, charities, governments, and any other body, company, or organization to again save them. The simple idea of an individual working hard work in order to live a modest but good life has been lost, and people, especially young people, do not have that concept at all.
But thirdly, people love to religious leaders as their christ-savior. They want to have their ears and emotions charged every day if possible by somebody telling the evil won’t befall them, and blessings are falling on them. That desire, an error in the soul of the common people far from God, is exactly how modern day false prophets enter and control so many people, and their control is extreme and abusive.
